Disaster Relief

Rotary Responds

With more than 1.4 million members worldwide, Rotary members are on the ground and ready to take action to help communities recover when disasters strike.

Rotary supports three phases of relief:

  1. Immediate response: Our local clubs and partners immediately offer helping hands and supplies.
  2. Short-term assistance: Our clubs and districts help affected communities wherever we can through funds and materials to re-establish day-to-day operations.
  3. Long-term rebuilding: Our clubs plan and implement projects that rebuild affected communities.

Rotary District 6990 Disaster Relief

In the face of catastrophe, Rotary District 6990 stands firm, providing assistance when and where it’s needed the most. Our foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) entity, is unwaveringly dedicated to disaster relief. When you contribute, you’re ensuring that every penny goes directly to the rescue, recovery, and rebuilding efforts in affected areas.

How to Donate:

    1. Choose Your Cause:
      • You can earmark your donation for a specific disaster, ensuring that your funds are utilized where your heart feels the most pull. Current specific disasters open for donation will be listed below.
      • Alternatively, by leaving the memo blank or mentioning “general disaster relief”, your donation will be allocated to where it’s most urgently needed.
    2. Writing the Check:
      • Please make checks payable to: Rotary District 6990 Foundation.
      • In the memo area of your check, specify the disaster cause you wish to support, or leave it blank for donations to the general disaster relief fund.
    3. Mail Your Contribution:
      • Please send your checks to our District Treasurer, Brian Palkowitsh: 4780 NE 4th Ave, Oakland Park, FL 33334

Thank you for your generosity and dedication. Together, we are making a profound impact, assisting communities to rise, recover, and rebuild.

Hurricane Dorian Relief

Grand Bahama Island has 5 Rotary clubs and is a valued part of Rotary District 6990. Grand Bahama Island and Abaco Island took a direct hit from Hurricane Dorian, with winds that reached 180 miles per hour. This storm has battered these islands and the rebuilding process will take years. Our current phase of relief is rebuilding homes and businesses lost during the hurricane.
